(Detroit, MI) – A bad flight can make you feel like your skin is crawling. That was especially true for a group of passengers who were flying from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday — after revolting maggots started falling down on seats. Apparently, someone had brought fish with them on the plane, and then stashed it in the overhead bins.
Flying with food like that is already potentially questionable, but to make matters worse the fish was rotted. A fellow passenger said the fish was wrapped in newspaper. In a since-deleted social media post, on person said “Really lovely to be 2 hours into an 8 hour @Delta to Amsterdam and find out there is rotten fish and maggots hitching a ride with us.” The flight was re-routed back to Europe.
Delta’s Reddit page included several other quotes regarding the hellish flight. “My family and I were in the row directly in front of the maggots. The lady right behind us told the flight attendants the maggots were falling on her head.” Another painted a picture with words: “Ugh. I turned around and they were wiggling around on the seat.” One family was moved to a different area of the plane in order to get away from the carnage: “Absolutely gross. This dude literally messed up the travel situations of hundreds of people.”
The Daily Mail reports the suitcase that contained the offensive fish was due to be burned. Delta took the plane out of service for a deep cleaning and gave all of the affected travelers 8,000 free miles, a $30 meal ticket, and hotel room compensation.
All of that for some rotten fish. And people complain about it being microwaved in the office kitchen!
