(Bronx, NY) – The New York City Police Department is releasing photos of two suspects in Monday afternoon’s subway platform shooting that left one man dead and five other people injured. The incident unfolded around 4:30 Monday afternoon in the Bronx, as a 4-train was pulling into the Mount Eden station.
Authorities have identified the man who died as 35-year-old Obed Beltran-Sanchez, who was struck in the chest. The five other victims range in age from 14 to 71, and they’re expected to survive. But one woman was seriously injured — she’s 29 years of age — and was struck by a bullet in the neck and face. Witnesses say the scene was chaotic and that people ran for safety as the train pulled in. NYPD Transit Chief Michael Kemper explains shots were originally fired as the train entered the station, and immediately afterward along the platform.
At this point cops are calling the incident a dispute between two groups.
