It May Be Hard To Hail a Ride on Valentine’s Day

Uber and Lyft drivers could go on strike for Valentine's Day, as they push for higher pay. It would be the first strike for each company since going public in 2019.

(New York, NY) – If you’re planning on going out for Valentine’s Day, consider your transportation options. Especially if any wine, beer, or cocktails are on the menu. For anyone that will be dining out with their sweetheart and hoping to catch a ride via Uber or Lyft — think again. Drivers with Uber and Lyft are planning to go on strike for Valentine’s Day — nationwide.

This marks the first strike call since Uber and Lyft went public in 2019. Driver’s groups say they are seeking higher pay. The plan is to picket outside airports and Uber offices.

Upward of 130,000 drivers are represented by the Justice For App Workers coalition. They say drivers will refuse to provide rides to and from airports in between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in close to a dozen US cities.

DoorDash drivers also plan to participate in the strike, so heads up if you’re planning on ordering takeout. The safest option? Perhaps a home cooked meal made with love — provided you or your sweetie know your way around the kitchen!
