(New York, NY) — The first real snow storm in years has moved into the Tri-State area. City Hall says it’s ready to do battle with whatever falls today. Sanitation trucks were putting salt down on roads overnight. Plows hit streets after there is more than two inches of snow on the ground. The National Weather Service says 1 to 2 inches of snow could fall an hour until the early afternoon. The brunt of the storm will be during the morning with heavy snow and gusty winds. New York City could end up with 6 to 8 inches on the ground before the storm moves out.
New York City schools have gone all remote today. City Schools Chancellor David Banks says the city’s 900-thousand students will log in to class today. Many suburban schools are taking a true snow day. The subways and commuter rails are up and running. They do expect a lighter than usual commute, as many opt to work from home.
