Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. has faced withering criticism from New York Republicans following the attack on two NYPD cops in Times Square.

(New York, NY) – A grand jury has indicted one of the suspects in last month’s attack of two NYPD officers in Times Square. Upward of 14 migrants allegedly attacked the cops, after they attempted to break up a rowdy group of individuals near a migrant shelter. Now, Yohenry Brito, who allegedly kicked off the whole fracas when he resisted arrest, has been charged. He went before a judge for close to 10 minutes and had his next court date set for March 25. Outside court, an attorney for Brito noted his client “pleaded not guilty.”
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has faced blistering criticism after close to half a dozen suspects were initially arrested and then released — without even so much as a bail request. Some reports say those migrants have since hightailed it for Southern California, on a bus.
In response to the controversy, New York Republican lawmakers in Albany are demanding Bragg’s ouster. In a letter send to Governor Kathy Hochul, the GOP members argue Bragg’s mishandling of the attack in Times Square shows he needs to go. State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ort and 19 other Republicans within the State Senate and Assembly signed on to the letter. It argues Bragg has turned his back on police, ignored victims of crime, and launched politically-expedient investigations — ultimately making New Yorkers less safe, they claim.
