(New York, NY) — Six migrants are behind bars today, part of crew that police say were driving around the city on stolen mopeds, stealing phones from unsuspecting New Yorkers. Police say they were pulling banking information off the phones and then shipping them to Colombia. They are still looking for the head of the operation. The migrants cuffed were all believed to be living in city run shelters.
Mayor Adams now says he thinks any migrants arrested and convicted of serious crimes should get kicked out of the country. He initially called for them to just be thrown out of city run shelters. The latest arrests have some city lawmakers calling on the mayor to work again with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Staten Island Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis says ICE would help keep the worst of the migrant population off city streets.
