NEW YORK, NY – Mayor Adams is reacting to the City Council’s 42-9 vote on Tuesday to override his veto of the “How Many Stops Act.” The bill requires police to report information on street stops, which the Mayors feel will bury police in paperwork instead of being on patrol.

Adams said the vote may undermine all the progress his administration has made in reducing crime. He says he believes in increased transparency, but he says the answer is not to compromise public safety. Adams also criticized the council’s decision to override his veto of a ban on solitary confinement in city jails, saying it will jeopardize the safety of correctional staff.
