Upton, NY-  The winter storm expected to spread over the tristate starting Saturday afternoon will bring a mixed bag of precipitation.
A coating to 2 inches of snow is forecast for the city and along the coast with mostly rain. 3-5 inches of snow is expected in Northern New Jersey where a winter storm warning is in effect. 6-10 inches of snow is likely to fall in the Hudson Valley.

New York City Emergency Management is issuing a weather alert for Saturday and Sunday. Mayor Adams and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy say snow removal crews are ready. Meantime hundreds of flights could be canceled  in advance of the winter storm.

More than 20 million people from the Mid Atlantic to the Northeast are under a winter storm watch.
