(New York, NY) — It’s Mulchfest chipping weekend in New York City, and that means it’s the last chance for New Yorkers to recycle their Christmas trees. There are dozens of chipping locations throughout the five boroughs. The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation reminding those dropping off trees to remove all lights, ornaments, and netting. You can find locations and more information at nycgovparks.org. Recycled trees will be used to establish fish habitats and create mulch for future plantings.
Last year, 60,000 trees were turned into mulch at sites across the city. The Parks Department hopes to beat that number this year. Mulchfest ends on Sunday.
