Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jonathan R. Farmer, 37, was among four Americans killed in a suicide bombing on January 16, 2019, in Manbij, Syria. Farmer was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Farmer joined the U.S. Army in 2005 and served six overseas combat tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. In his 13-year career in the military, Farmer was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Purple Heart, numerous other Army commendations, and achievement medals.

Farmer is survived by his wife, Tabitha, and four children. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the Farmer family mortgage in July 2019.
