(Long Beach, NY) — PSEG Long Island says Tuesday’s outage in Long Beach, that knocked out power to 20,000 was started by a small balloon. Utility spokeswoman Katy Tatzel, says a Mylar foil balloon got tangled in some power lines.  A cable failed when workers switched the power to another line to untangle the balloon.  The outage Tuesday lasted around an hour. Firefighters say some people were trapped for a short time in elevators, but they were quickly rescued. Tatzel warned of the dangers of releasing Mylar foil balloons into the air.  She says when they make contact with power lines they can lead to power outages and even fires.
