Bill Would Ban NJ Pet Shops from Selling Cats, Dogs

(Trenton, NJ) – Legislation has been introduced in New Jersey that would ban the state’s pet stores from selling dogs and cats. If passed, the law would replace an older statute — putting into place new rules for pet stores, and adjusted guidelines when it comes to adopting cats and dogs.

The current law allows stores to sell cats and dogs, provided they’re obtained from breeders that are licensed federally and by the state. Pet store owners say the proposed law would negatively impact consumers interested in owning pets — and force stores to shut down.
