More Cuts Reportedly Coming for NYC Budget

(New York, NY) – While New Yorkers are continuing to process the recent 5% across-the-board cuts enacted for the city budget, reports say more cuts are coming. According to a memo written by Mayor Eric Adams’ Budget Director on Monday, City Hall is looking to enact another 5% cut. That said, these cuts will reportedly spare the NYPD, FDNY, and Department of Sanitation.

The previous cuts impacted all three agencies, as New York City’s number of police officers could fall to levels not seen in decades by 2025.

While the city looks to achieve more than $2 billion in cuts, the word is officials are also looking to reduce spending on migrants. But the migrant crisis is also what’s fueling the budget gap, at least partially. Mayor Adams has also cited expiring COVID stimulus funds, and increased office vacancies — which have increased since the pandemic — lowering tax revenue for the city.
