(New York, NY) — Republicans picked off a city Council seat in the Bronx last night, when newcomer Kristy Marmorato beat Democratic incumbent Marjorie Velazquez. In Brooklyn Democratic City Councilman Justin Brannan outlasted Republican City Councilman Ari Kagan in a newly mapped district. In Whitestone, Queens, incumbent Councilmember Vickie Paladino defeated her challenger, Democrat Tony Avella.
History was made in Yonkers as Democrat Mike Spano won a fourth term as mayor. Republicans had their best night out on Long Island, holding onto and winning new seats like Suffolk County Executive. In New Jersey, Republicans were hopeful they would have a big night. The opposite was true. New Jersey Democrats not only managed to hold onto their state legislative majorities Tuesday night, but expanded them by three seats.
