(Maplewood, NJ) — There will be no more Halloween celebrations during school hours in the South Orange-Maplewood School District in Essex County. District officials say they’re trying to promote diversity and inclusion, and avoid financial hardships for families by ending in-school observances of Halloween. One school in Maplewood — Seth Boyden Elementary School ended its Halloween celebrations eight years ago and began holding fall festivals in their place. Schools may still partner with the PTA to hold Halloween-themed events.
