(New York, NY) – As the old saying goes: yeah, well that and $2.90 will get you a ride on the subway. But how about a bite to eat to go along with your MetroCard swipe or OMNI payment? The next time you catch a train at the Herald Square subway station, a new restaurant fusing Korean culture and fine dining is now serving customers.
It’s called Nōksu, and it can be found inside the subway station at West 32nd Street and Herald Square. You need to enter a discreet key code to enter, and from there a 12-course tasting menu is available. Just make sure to bring your credit card, as it costs $225 per patron.
Speaking to Fox Five New York about their new eatery, co-owners Bobby Kwak and Joseph Ko say it’s long been their dream to combine delicious food and artistic expression. Ko explained that, “it’s almost like painting a painting but having 8 or 10 individuals paint that painting together. It’s not easy. To get that actual picture you want, it’s a difficult task. It’s really important for us second-generation Koreans to provide vessels and provide some type of transition to a newer and more modern age of Korean dining.”
And if the food doesn’t get you in the turnstile – er, door – then Nōksu’s “meticulously crafted” drinks might do the drink. Kwak says their vision combines the latest in haute cuisine with Korean culture: “We wanted to dig into our roots and create something and put Korean cuisine more on the mainstream. Give it a little more love. Give it some spotlight.”
Just bring and empty stomach, a willing palette, some friends – and – stand clear of the closing doors please.
