(Robbinsville, NJ) – Over the weekend, the BAPS Akshardham opened in New Jersey. Located just east of Trenton, and about 45 minutes northeast of Philadelphia, it stands as the world’s largest modern Hindu temple outside of India. It’s a 180 acre campus that was first envisioned in the late 1990s, with construction getting underway in 2010.

Upwards of 12,500 volunteers took part in the project, which took an estimated four-point-seven-million man hours to complete. Indian artisans and the volunteers helped import two-million cubic feet of marble and limestone. The house of worship is also outfitted with a museum, welcome center, and event space.
