(Washington, D.C.) — The government is set to shut down if Congress fails to pass a funding bill by Saturday at midnight. The House is expected to take up a Republican stopgap funding bill today. But House Speaker Kevin McCarthy doesn’t appear to have the votes to pass it. Millions of Americans would be impacted, including federal workers who would be furloughed without pay. Military members and essential federal workers like those who work for the Federal Aviation Administration would be required to work without a paycheck.
