(Wawayanda, NY) – The NTSB has started its investigation into Thursday’s deadly charter bus crash in Orange County, New York. Operated by Regency Transportation Ltd., the bus rolled over and went down an embankment while carrying the Farmingdale High School marching band to band camp in Pennsylvania. The crash killed 43-year-old band director Gina Pellettiere and 77-year-old retired history teacher Beatrice Ferrari, who was volunteering as a chaperone.

NTSB investigator John Humm says his team will work alongside the New York State Police and remain on scene for five to seven days. He notes they will conduct a toxicology screen on the female bus driver. Reports indicate the woman may have received an “unacceptable” rating from the Department of Transportation in the past.

Meanwhile, a growing memorial with flowers and candles has been set up outside of Farmingdale High School, located on Long Island in Nassau County. Grief counselors are being brought in to work with students and staff members. Eighteen adults and students remained hospitalized entering the weekend.
