Canadian Wildfire Smoke Led To Higher ER Visits

(New York, NY) – Wildfire smoke that resulted from Canadian wildfires has led to a significant jump in ER visits for asthma here in the US. According to the CDC, asthma-related ER visits jumped 17% in impacted areas, spanning April to August.

Twelve states and the District of Columbia recorded increased ER visits due to asthma. But both New York and New Jersey saw the most significant uptick in emergency room visits. June 7 in particular was challenging for New York State hospitals, as asthma-related trips to the ER spiked by 82% that say.
