(New York, NY) – Commuters are grumbling across the Big Apple today, as well as up in Westchester and out on Long Island, after an MTA fare hike went into effect on Sunday. Subways and buses are costing you more to ride, as the base fare has increased from $2.75 to $2.90.

Metro North and LIRR fares have jumped 4.5%. Many commuters are miffed by the increase, saying trains and buses are dirty, unreliable, and hardly worthy of an increased price. Meanwhile, the MTA’s controversial congestion pricing plan continues to take shape. By Spring 2024, motorists could be charged up to $23 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street. Some groups may receive exemptions of some kind.
