(Brooklyn, NY) – A teenager is expected to survive after being shot in the thigh yesterday by police. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell says officers first responded when a group of young adults started fighting on the street, in East Flatbush. It happened mid afternoon. The 17-year-old boy who was eventually shot allegedly fled the scene of the fight on scooter as cops closed in.

After cops gave pursuit, the teen allegedly dropped a gun. One of the officers warned him not to pickup the gun. Chief Chell says the cop warned the teen repeatedly, and opened fire when the teen picked up the gun. Hit in the thigh, officers quickly shifted to life-saving mode, and successfully applied a tourniquet.

It’s not clear what the original fight on the street was about.
