(New York, NY) – Howard Redmond, who handled security for former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, is pleading guilty to felony charges of obstruction. A former NYPD inspector, Redmond was fired in January after allegations emerged. Prosecutors say he’s admitted to helping protect de Blasio from investigators as they sought to prove he illegally used his security detail during his failed bid for the presidency in 2020.

According to court documents, de Blasio made use of NYPD services to help his daughter move into an apartment, for personal errands, and his son Dante allegedly used the security detail as a personal concierge service.

Redmond was a member of the NYPD for 30 years. Under the terms of a plea deal, he won’t serve time in prison, but must submit a formal apology. He’s also required to complete ten days of community service.

Meanwhile, de Blasio owed the city $475,000 as of June, after being fined over the issue by the the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board.
