Trump Capitol Riot
(Washington, DC) — Former President Donald Trump is calling on the Supreme Court to intervene in his D.C. court case. The request comes after Trump and his allies in congress claim the former president wont get a fair trial in the U.S. capital.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz said the Obama-appointed judge in the case has a reputation for “being far left” and has handed down strong sentences in previous January 6th cases.
Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene agreed Trump has “no shot” of a fair trial in DC, pointing to the fact the city is mostly made up of Democrats. Trump has called for the case to be moved to West Virginia.
The former President took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his concern saying:
“CRAZY! My political opponent has hit me with a barrage of weak lawsuits, including D.A., A.G., and others, which require massive amounts of my time & money to adjudicate. Resources that would have gone into Ads and Rallies, will now have to be spent fighting these Radical Left Thugs in numerous courts throughout the Country. I am leading in all Polls, including against Crooked Joe, but this is not a level playing field. It is Election Interference, & the Supreme Court must intercede. MAGA!”
Trump pleaded not guilty to criminal charges Thursday over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
He also faces charges for his handling of classified documents and hush-money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Biden has said little of Trump’s legal battles and has emphasized the independence of the Justice Department.
“Nothing like this has ever happened before,” said Trump in a recent Truth Social post, “BUT SOMEHOW, WE WILL WIN IT ALL!!!”
