(London, UK) – Actor Kevin Spacey has been acquitted of sexual assault charges following a four-week trial in London. The Oscar winner was found not guilty after being hit with nine charges of sexual assault. Prosecutors said the alleged encounters happened in London, spanning 2001 to 2013.
High-profile witnesses had delivered testimony on behalf of Spacey, including Sir Elton John. Reports from the courtroom say Spacey teared up after the verdict was read, and he thanked members of the jury as well as court staff. He could have faced life in prison if convicted. Spacey maintained his accusers were after money.
When allegations concerning Spacey and younger men first emerged years ago, the actor’s career more or less ground to a halt. Some of those accusers allege improper sexual behavior happened in the US.
