(New York, NY) – The NYPD has a new top cop after Edward Caban was sworn in today by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Caban becomes the city’s first-ever Latino police commissioner, replacing Keechant Sewell who was the department’s first female top cop. She resigned last month after a year and a half on the job.
Caban, who was raised in the Bronx, has been a member of the department since the early 1990s. His father was a transit officer.
