(New York, NY) – A new poll finds that a majority of Americans worry they’ll be victimized by crime. Four in 10 say they’ve “never” been this concerned about the issue, according to the survey data gathered by Sienna College.
Combining the results on a statewide basis, 61% of respondents are either “very” or “somewhat” concerned about being a victim of crime. Digging deeper into the numbers, 87% of all state residents consider crime to be a “very” or “somewhat” serious problem. Over half (57%) say that’s specifically true within their own community.
As for residents of New York City, 7 in 10 say they’re either very (30%) or somewhat (40%) worried about becoming a crime victim sometime soon. The poll’s chief analyst suggests many New Yorkers are taking steps to protect themselves and others when out in public, “best they can.”
