(New York, NY) – New York City is continuing to be plagued by gun violence this summer, after another bloody weekend unfolded around the five boroughs. Perhaps most notably there was a random shooting spree that took place on Saturday morning. In that case, 25-year-old Thomas Abreu allegedly opened fire while riding his scooter, killing an 87-year-old man and wounding three others – including one left in critical condition.
Elsewhere, it was last night in Harlem when a gunman riding a Citi Bike shot a man in the leg. The 37-year-old victim was struck by a bullet at West 144th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard just before 7:00 PM, according to the NYPD. Cops say the suspected shooter immediately fled the scene on the bike. As of Monday morning he was still on the loose. The victim was brought to a local hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Later that night, a 21-year-old woman was shot on the Lower East Side. She was taken to a local hospital, and was reportedly in stable condition. However, cops declined to share information regarding the person who may be responsible.
