(Queens, NY) – A New York City family is in mourning after a teenager drowned while swimming over the weekend. It happened at Rockaway Beach around 6:00 PM last night. Reports indicate lifeguards had left for the day, after stormy weather closed the beach early.
The 17-year-old boy’s body was recovered and rescue breathing was attempted but he couldn’t be revived. New York City officials are continuing to urge people not to enter the water unless lifeguards are posted and on duty.
