(New York, NY) – Upwards of 45,000 students and staff members at New York City public schools may have had sensitive data exposed by a cyberattack. The DOE confirmed the attack and said things like student evaluations were accessed, which means things like social security numbers and birthdates were potentially exposed.

This apparently stemmed from a vulnerability in “Move It,” which is a software program used to share documents. No ransom demands have been submitted to the DOE, and to date the stolen data has not been published online. DOE officials plan to notify anyone affected this summer, and they’ll be offered access to an identity monitoring service.
