(77WABC) — A new poll shows Republicans have an edge as the midterms draw closer.
The poll by the New York Times and Siena College found 49% of voters planned to vote Republican, while 45% are planning to vote Democrat. This comes after a September poll showed that Democrats had a one-point lead.
The poll shows that the economy is a major issue for voters — with those concerned favoring the GOP by a more than two-to-one margin. The poll also shows Republicans scooping up crucial independent voters, namely women, as the midterms approach.
Democrats also seem to be hurting to due a large portion of voters disapproving of President Biden’s job.
