NEW YORK (77WABC) — A protest was held Wednesday against the MTA’s controversial congestion pricing plan.

Yellow cab drivers, along with Lyft and Uber drivers, protested calling for exemptions to congestion pricing which means an added $9 to $23 charge to drive south of 60th Street. Many drivers say it would destroy their jobs.

The protest happened on 3rd Avenue outside Governor Kathy Hochul’s office — who’s refused to halt congestion pricing.

In response to Wednesday’s protest, an MTA spokesman released a statement, saying in part that for-hire-vehicles are a part of the story of congestion in Manhattan’s central business district, which has harmful air quality impacts and slow-downs.

The MTA is holding six public hearings in the next week on congestion pricing, starting today at 5 p.m.
