SHIRLEY, New York -(77WABC)-  Police in Suffolk County say a paddle boarder at Smith Point Beach was bitten by a Tiger shark— temporarily closing the beach on Wednesday.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said the 41-year-old victim suffered a 4-inch gash to his leg and was treated at a local hospital.

The attack happened in the early morning when no lifeguards were on duty.

There have been at least 5 shark attacks so far on Long Island this summer.  Officials say this is the second shark attack at Smith Point Beach this year.
