NYC Senior Citizens Scammed of $30,000; Two Suspects On the Lamb

New York, NY (77WABC)-Three out of four NYC senior citizens in Queens and Brooklyn who were contacted by scammers demanding money were conned out of nearly $30,000. In each of the four cases, the seniors were called and told a family member was arrested and needed money for bail. In all four incidents, police say the information was untrue and part of an effort to scam seniors out of cold hard cash.

The first incident occurred in Queens  on Tuesday, May 31st. Police say a scammer contacted an 83-year-old man by telephone telling him that a family member was arrested and needed money for  bail.  An individual met the victim at his home  in the vicinity of 59 Avenue and 223 Street, and collected approximately $5,000 from him.
Then on June 8th in Brooklyn an individual unknown to a  77-year-old man called him saying that a family member was arrested and needed money for  bail. An individual met the victim at his home located near 12 Avenue and 49 Street, and collected approximately $10,769 from him.

In Queens on  Thursday, June 9th a  74-year-old woman was contacted by telephone  and told that a family member was arrested and needed money for bail. A man  met the victim at her home near 91 Avenue and 212 Place. The man requested $6,800, but the woman was able to contact her family member in advance and determine that she was being scammed. The woman did not give the man any money and he fled after the woman said she was going to call the police.

Later the same morning  a man called  an 88-year-old woman telling her a family member was arrested and needed money for bail. A man went to her home near 18th Avenue and 62 Street, and collected approximately $13,900 from her.

In three of the incidents police say the suspects left in a light colored grey Infiniti Sedan.
