The Mets will conclude their two-game series against the Astros this afternoon. In-game one of their two-game set against Houston, the Mets fell 8-2 to the Astros. Trevor Williams struggled in this game giving up 3 earned runs and 2 home runs over 4 innings pitched. This was a rare night where the Mets didn’t come through with runners in scoring position. New York went 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and left 8 men on base. The Mets only runs came on Pete Alonso’s 20th home run of the year and Eduardo Escobar’s 6th home run of the season. The Astros came out swinging getting home runs from two of their best players in Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. Altuve’s home run was a solo shot while Alvarez’s home run was a two-run shot. Kyle Tucker then added a three-run double to make it 6-0 Astros followed by an RBI single from Mauricio Dubon. The Mets ended up going on to lose 8-2 in what was a rough game for New York. The only silver lining about last night for the Mets was that the Braves and Phillies both lost which means that New York maintained their 5.5-game lead in the NL East over Atlanta and their 8.5-game lead over Philadelphia. The Mets will look to bounce back this afternoon with Carlos Carrasco on the mound.
