WASHINGTON (77WABC) — There was another showdown on Capitol Hill between Republican Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Anthony Fauci — the President’s chief medical advisor.

Paul hammered Fauci over whether children are going to need 10 COVID-19 booster shots. Fauci, said it was ‘absurd’ to say that children would need to continue getting boosters as long as they produce antibodies, despite a recommendation from the CDC.

The 81-year-old Fauci — before being cut off by Paul — said the CDC’s recommendation is not based on studies or data but based on children’s mortality rate due from COVID-19.

“The only studies that were presented were antibody studies,” Paul interjected. “So they say: If we give you a booster, you produce antibodies. Now, a lot of scientists would question whether or not that’s proof of efficacy of a vaccine.”

Fauci testified remotely after being diagnosed with COVID-19 Wednesday.

Both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 shots for children as young as six months received clearance from an FDA advisory panel this week. Final FDA approval is expected shortly.
