charles-leclaire-usa-today-sports-1-2

In game 4 the Rangers got blown out 7-2 on the road against the Penguins and everything looked really bleak. In games five and six the Rangers trailed by two goals but found a way to win both games. In game five the Rangers scored early in the third period to take a 4-3 lead, and then got an empty net goal to seal it from defensemen Ryan Lindgren. In game six the game was tied at 3 when Chris Kreider scored on a slapshot to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead with 1:29 remaining, and never looked back winning 5-3. This led to game seven at Madison Square Garden. Unlike the previous two games the Rangers got out to a fast start taking a 1-0 lead on a Chris Kreider goal. After that the Penguins scored two straight goals including a controversial goal by Jake Guentzel that gave the Penguins the lead. The Rangers responded by scoring a goal to tie it at two. Late in the second period a Rangers turnover led to a goal by defensemen Evan Rodrigues to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. In the third period the Rangers tied it again at three with 5:45 left in the third period on a Mika Zibanejad slapshot that beat Pittsburgh goalie Tristan Jarry. In game one the game went into triple overtime with Pittsburgh winning 4-3, but in game seven Rangers star Artemi Panarin ended up being the hero scoring on a power play goal to win the game and the series for New York 4-3. New York will start a second round series against the Carolina Hurricanes who finished first in the metropolitan division ahead of the Rangers. Game one will be wednesday in Carolina.
