DC: US President Joe Biden Delivers First State of the Union Address to Joint Session of Congress
WASHINGTON (77WABC) — President Joe Biden’s approval rating has ticked up in another survey following his State of the Union address featuring tough talk on confronting Russia over the invasion of Ukraine.
In a new Politico/Morning Consult Poll, Biden’s overall approval rating hit 45 percent, with 51 percent disapproval. The president is still ‘underwater’ – but the numbers are an improvement from late February, and could indicate a bump from his State of the Union speech March 1, where he got a positive bipartisan reception for comments promising to rally allies to sanction Russia.
That result follows two other post-State of the Union polls also showing a bump. An NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist poll showed a 7-point rise in Biden’s approval rating among registered voters, from 40 percent in February to 47 percent in the new survey. Biden’s numbers were smaller in a Quinnipiac University poll, showing 38 percent last week to 40 percent in the new poll.
The period has also seen a continued decline in U.S. coronavirus infections, and with multiple states and localities easing restrictions. According to the poll, 45 percent say the president is ‘mentally fit,’ the same as his approval rating. That is unchanged over four months.
