NEW YORK (77WABC) — Police say the attacker who bludgeoned a city employee in the head with a hammer has been arrested.

The NYPD says they arrested 57-year-old William Blount. Charges against Blount include attempted murder, robbery and assault in the late night brutal attack Thursday against NYC health department worker Nina Rothschild, where she was attacked at the Queens Plaza E, M and R station.

Police say Blount’s last known address is Astoria, Queens. He has a half dozen prior arrests including robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. The station where Rothschild was attacked was apparently one where more cops had been added as part of Mayor Eric Adams’ plan to combat subway crime and violence.

Another Queens straphanger was struck over the head in an unprovoked attack the same night Rothschild was beaten with a hammer.
