WASHINGTON D.C. – (77WABC) In a sudden turn of events Donald Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows has decided to cooperate with the House January 6th committee investigating the riots at the U.S. Capitol. Meadows deciding not to risk being slapped with criminal contempt charges.
Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson who chairs the committee said in a statement — “Mark Meadows has produced records to the committee and will soon appear for an initial deposition. The Select Committee expects all witnesses, including Mr. Meadows, to provide all information requested and that the Select Committee is lawfully entitled to receive”
At issue is former President Trump’s stand in court that he should be able to declare executive privilege over sensitive documents.
Former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon has already been indicted for contempt of congress for failure to appear and provide records to the Jan. 6th committee.
