New York, NY (77WABC)-Police responding to a 911 call of shots fired in the area of Fort Washington park near West 168th St. encountered a man who police say pointed a weapon at them. Officers say they opened fire on the man after he refused orders in English and Spanish to drop the weapon.
The 23-year-old man was struck by gunfire from police in his torso. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The officers were taken to a hospital for an evaluation, but were not hit by gunfire.
The police involved shooting happened on Sunday, November 7th around 8;15 pm after police responded to a report of shots fired.
A weapon was recovered at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Police have not yet released the 23-year-old shooting victims name or potential charges against him.
