(LONG ISLAND, NY) (77WABC)– Nassau county residents will need to dial the complete ten digit phone number, including the 516 area code when making local phone calls.
News 12 Long Island reporting its all part of making room for a new three digit National Suicide Prevention and Mental Crisis emergency phone number.
The new number is 988, and is expected to be up and running by July of next year. The new ten digit number begins on October 24th.
Nassau County will reportedly be getting a second area code in about two years because they are running out of 516 numbers.
