New York, NY(77WABC)- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told President Biden in a letter that Republicans will no longer be assisting in raising the nation’s debt ceiling.
Senator McConnell sent the letter a day after the Senate approved a short-term debt ceiling raise into December. In the letter, Senator McConnell alluded to taking credit for Thursday’s successful vote and that it will be the last time he helps the President,
“Last night, Republicans filled the leadership vacuum that has troubled the Senate since January. I write to inform you that I will not provide such assistance again if your all-Democrat government drifts into another avoidable crisis,” wrote McConnell.
Senator McConnell also took aim at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), writing that Senator Schumer made excuses to stall on basic duties,
“The Senate Democratic Leader had three months’ notice to handle one of his most basic governing duties. Amazingly, even this proved to be asking too much. Senator Schumer spent 11 weeks claiming he lacked the time and the leadership skills to manage a straightforward process that would take less than two weeks,” wrote McConnell.
Senator Schumer has not yet commented on the letter.
