Huntington Station, NY (77WABC)-Suffolk County police say a Huntington Station man is charged with DWI after allegedly causing a head on crash which left him with serious injuries and a Florida couple with minor injuries.
Suffolk County Police say 33-year-old Elmer Penate of Huntington Station was traveling eastbound behind the wheel of his 2008 Nissan Sunday evening, when he hit a 2013 Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound head on. Police say the crash happened around 7:21 pm on Pulaksi Rd. near Depot Road.
Penate was taken to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The Florida couple, 67-year-old Robert Beegel and his 67-year-old wife Rhonda Beegelo of Ocean Ridge, were transported to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries. Police say that Mr. Beegel was driving the Jeep and his wife was a passenger.
Second Squad detectives say Penate is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
Both of the vehicles were impounded. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
