NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Resignation Takes Effect Today

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is set to end his decade as New York’s governor today at 11:59 pm.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will take over as Governor, a transition that  breaks another glass ceiling for women in state politics. Hochul will become New York’s first female governor when she takes her oath in private moments after midnight.

The transition between Democrats comes just under two weeks after Cuomo announced he would resign rather than face a likely impeachment battle over sexual harassment allegations. A report by the NY State Attorney General found Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women. Cuomo denies wrongdoing.

Cuomo had planned to run for a fourth term next year.
