New York LT. Gov. Kathy Hochul talks about the state vaccine program at the Dome Arena in Henrietta which is one of the state COVID-19 vaccination sites with today, January 20, 2021 being their first day in operation. Lt Gov Kathy Hochul State Vaccine Site A

New York, NY (77WABC)- Though she still has 12 more days until she’s officially the first female Governor of New York,  Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul is already being questioned on important decisions.  Savannah Guthrie of  ‘Today’ on NBC asked Hochul her thoughts on mask mandates in schools for the upcoming year.

“Well, this is an opinion right now, because Gov. Cuomo is still in office, and the state only has one governor at the time, but when I become governor, this will be a key issue. And my view is that people will be women, children, and everyone in a school environment will be masked,” she stated to Guthrie.

Hochul did insist that she will leave COVID-19 prevention measures in schools up to the school districts, as Governor Cuomo did as well.

“That’s just an opinion right now. I don’t have the authority to make that the policy, and we’re gonna leave it up to the school districts,” she said.

Do you think children should be required to wear masks in school still?
