New York (77WABC) – Governor Andrew Cuomo Tuesday insisted that he did no wrongdoing, after New York Attorney General Letitia James released a damning report that detailed multiple instances of sexual harassment made by the Governor.

“I want you to know directly from me that I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances,” Cuomo said in a press conference. “That is just not who I am, and that’s not who I have ever been.”

Cuomo doubled down on his refusal to resign, even after telling New York state lawmakers to wait until James’ finished her investigation — and suggested that he was the victim of a smear campaign.

The Governor also responded directly to some of the allegations in the report, including those from Charlotte Bennett, a former aide to Cuomo. Bennett had said back in February that the governor asked probing questions about her sex life that left her convinced he “wanted to sleep with” her.

The governor seemed to blame Bennett and her attorney for not understanding where he was coming from, after Cuomo said they shared personal stories of sexual harassment.

“I have heard Charlotte and her lawyer and I understand what they are saying,” he said. “But they read into comments that I made and draw inferences that I never meant. They ascribe motives that I never had.

“And simply put, they heard things that I just didn’t say.”
