Linden, NJ (77WABC) Northbound Routes 1 & 9 was shut down for over six hours following a deadly late night crash Tuesday. Around 11:30 pm police say two people were killed when a BMW sedan heading north hit a Mazda which was making a U-turn from I-278.
The impact caused the Mazda to then hit a Honda SUV with the Mazda going off off the roadway.
Police say two men in the Mazda were pronounced dead at the scene.
A male and a female inside the BMW were transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police have not yet released the names of those involved in the crash.
