Wednesday’s Thunderstorms Prove Deadly as a Man is Struck and Killed by Lightning on a Golf Course

Westampton Township, NJ (77WABC) A golfer in his 70’s died Wednesday afternoon after lightning struck the tree he was apparently seeking shelter under during a severe thunderstorm. Police say the lightning bolt hit the tree then the man who was found collapsed under the tree.

The tragedy happened around 3:45 p.m. at the Club on the 100 block of Burrs Road in Westampton Township.

Officials say the man was struck by lightning while playing golf between the 6th and 7th holes during a thunderstorm.

Westampton Township police have not yet released the name of the man killed.
