Cicadas Delay The White House Press Ahead of the Presidents Overseas Trip

Washington DC (77WABC) —Brood X, a large emergence of the loud 17-year insects that take to dive-bombing onto moving vehicles and unsuspecting passersby delayed reporters traveling to the United Kingdom ahead of President Joe Biden’s first overseas trip as President. The Press Corp was delayed seven hours after their chartered plane was overrun by cicadas.

The White House says even Pres. Joe Biden had to brush a cicada from his shoulder as he chatted up his traveling press corps before he boarded Air Force One for the flight to Europe.

Officials say weather and crew rest issues also contributed to the flight delay.

Biden’s eight-day overseas trip seeks to shore up the USA’s position as a world power overseas politically and economically.  The first-term Democratic President believes the West must publicly demonstrate it can compete economically with China as the world emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.

President Biden first travels to Britain for a summit of the Group of Seven leaders and then Brussels for a NATO summit and a meeting with the heads of the European Union. The trip ends with a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva.

Queen Elizabeth is also scheduled to welcome President Biden during a visit to Buckingham Palace.

The First Lady is traveling with the President.
